Living at Home Network Executive Director Position Description

The Living at Home Network has 32 members in Minnesota that are non-profit, community based Living at Home/Block Nurse Programs helping nearly 10,000 older adults annually continue to live independently at home. The member programs foster neighbor-to-neighbor connections of support and friendship within defined geographic boundaries. The Living at Home Network is a resource hub and advocate, an advisor on operations, and a connector among all members.

Position Overview

The Living at Home Network (LAHN) Executive Director provides overall vision and leadership to guide the network of independent nonprofits. The Executive Director is a 35-hour-a-week position that reports to the LAHN Board of Directors. Hours may vary seasonally and an increase in hours and/or additional staff/contractors may be hired as funds permit. LAHN is a statewide organization, and the Executive Director must occasionally travel statewide.  LAHN has an office in St. Paul. Many of the job duties could be accomplished working remotely, except attending in-person meetings in the Metro area (averaging four to seven times a month).

Responsibilities

  1. Hub for network resources, support, communication and connection (30%)
    1. Develop and maintain relationships with network members and provide regular communication.
    2. Serve as a resource to members by tracking key developments related to their operations, providing group updates as well as individual communication, being available to answer questions and problem solve and by creating opportunities for network members to learn best practices from each other.
    3. Encourage integrity to the Living at Home/Block Nurse program model.
    4. Plan and convene annual state-wide conference of members and additional in-person or virtual topic-focused or regional meetings.
  2. Representation and visibility (25%)
    1. Promote the value and visibility of LAHN and its members.
    2. Initiate and maintain relationships with public policy leaders, the state legislature, government agencies, Area Agencies on Aging, funders and other stakeholders.
    3. Represent LAHN as needed with other aging/senior organizations.
  3.  Legislative advocacy (20%)
    1. Coordinate and support opportunities to encourage LAHN members to advocate for state funding and on issues related to goals of network programs.
    2. Represent the Network and Older Adults to members of MN State Legislature when necessary.
  4. Organizational leadership (15%)
    1. Provide vision, guidance and creative problem solving for LAHN. Track aging and nonprofit trends and prepare organizations to adapt when needed.
    2. Serve as LAHN spokesperson and guide partnership development with other agencies.
    3. Provide direction and support in building and maintaining an informed, active board of directors.
    4. Engage Board members and other volunteers in carrying out LAHN responsibilities.
    5. Guide future network expansion and viability.
  5. Fiscal/administrative management (10%)
    1. Ensure the financial sustainability of LAHN. Develop annual budget for Board approval and provide financial reports. Ensure financial oversight through an effective accounting system and controls.
    2. Supervise the part-time bookkeeping staff person.
    3. Coordinate LAHN individual giving campaign and conference sponsorship fundraising and seek opportunities for funding for LAHN.
    4. Manage office functions including responding to telephone and e-mail inquiries, maintain office equipment and technology, doing website updates and social media posts.

Experience and qualifications 

Required

  • Minimum of five years of proven nonprofit management experience, including program development, fundraising, government grant management and financial management. 
  • Creative leader who possesses excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and listening skills. Ability to build relationships with network members and agency partners.
  • Knowledgeable about community-based services for older adults, trends in the aging field, involvement of volunteers, community building and policy issues. 
  • Proven ability to work under own direction.
  • Familiarity with the Living at Home/Block Nurse Program model. 
  • Ability to travel to meet with people in communities statewide.
  • Competent in use of Microsoft Word and Excel and comfortable using databases for grant reporting and submission. 

Preferred

  • Experience working, volunteering or collaborating with a LAHN member program. 
  • Experience working with network/association agency model.
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors
  • Understanding of service delivery in both the Twin Cities Metro Area and Greater Minnesota.
  • Legislative advocacy experience and experience working with the MN Department of Human Services
  • Relevant educational experience.

 Salary and benefits 

This is a .75 FTE exempt position with a salary range of $27- $30 per hour. Benefits are pro-rated and include nine holidays, earned Paid Time Off (PTO), and the opportunity to receive health insurance, which is partially subsidized based on the number of hours worked. Target start date is July 5, 2023.
